TULA (SWE)

The word ‘tula’ means to wander far into the forest in the old Swedish language. It’s also a fitting choice of name for an artist, who’s grainy and rustic folk-inspired songs are deeply evocative of the backwoods of her home nation. Tula grew up on the Swedish island province of Gotland, in the Baltic Sea, and there’s a rich yet melancholy feel to the two tracks on this debut single which seemingly harks back to idyllic landscapes and the enchanting beauty of nature.

Wenn der Herbst zu Winter wird und der Regen mehr trommelt als prasselt, wird es Zeit Henrik Zeabird zu lauschen. Mit Stimmen, die wie füreinander geschaffen scheinen, besingt das Duo den Regen, den Tanz und die Jahreszeiten, wofür sie nur eine Gitarre, ihren Gesang und den Klang einer einsamen Melodika benötigen. Und so werden die Songs, die manchmal an eine zarte Feist oder Bon Iver mit erhobenen Kopf erinnern, mit einer Sanftmütigtkeit, aber auch Dringlichkeit, vorgetragen, die erstaunt und fesselt. Ins tiefste Grau kommt ein kleines Stückchen Frühling.
